Can't tell you how pleased and surprised I was to check the website for the 8th AD and quickly found my father's name.
He died in November 1956 while serving as State Civil Defense Director for
the State of Ohio.. He retired in 1953 after serving 36 years rising from
PVT NY NG to COL USA. I still have his WWI diary as a Machine Gun Co.
Comdr 1st ID and his WWII after action report of his capture by the Germans
in the Ruhr Pocket. (A copy of the after action report is on file with the
MilitaryHistory Insitute Carlisle Barracks PA)
I served for 22 years retiring in 1971 as a LTC Armor after I returned from Vietnam.
Thank you for your excellent website It brought back many fond memories for me of WWII and my father's part in it.
