26 March 45 -

Left Grefath at 2005, 25 March 45, and travelled 36 miles, arrived at the vicinity of Bruckhausen 0450, 27 March. Crossed the Rhine River at approximately 0300, Maintenance 27 March and 28 of March. The Second Platoon and Bull Dozer left Bruckhausen 0730 leading the assault on Kirchellen with Company 'B' of the 58th Infantry. The Third Platoon was in support and the First was in Reserve. The Second Platoon accomplished its mission of taking Kirchellen at expense of 2 killed, Cpl William (Butch) Beckner, Pfc Willard M. Bean of tank no. 6, 2 men wounded, Lt. Donald R. Martin, Tank Commander, and Quincy Cole II. One tank was knocked out, tank 6 of the Second Platoon of which Beckner was gunner and Bean was loader. The shell entered the right side of the turret and leaving the left side. Lt. Martin was Tank Commander of that tank. The Third Platoon relieved the Second at 1700 and took up defensive positions in the town. At 1900 the First Platoon and 'C' Company (58th Inf.) bypassed the Second and Third Platoons in Kirchellen and travelled several miles southeast and took up defilade positions and fired into the town of Overhagen. Lt. Kenneth R. Smitely was evacuated during the night (combat fatigue).

29 March 45 -

Third Platoon moved out of Kirchellen with Company 'B' of the 58th at 0630 and moved to Zeweckle, a distance of 9 miles without meeting any stiff resistance. First Platoon and Company 'C' moved out of their positions at 0600, proceeded through Zeweckle and engaged enemy on the outskirts at approximately 1430. Tanks 13 and 15 of the Third Platoon went out on reconnaissance in an attempt to find an easier route of advance. They were forced to abandon the mission because of heavy enemy concentrations in that area, after being subjected to heavy direct fire for a considerable length of time. Tank 2 of the First Platoon was lost as a result of Direct Fire. Tank 1 lost by mine, three casualties, Cpl Michael Majerczak, seriously wounded in action, Pfc Ralph P. Manno, lightly wounded in action, Pfc Julian K. Slusher combat exhaustion.

30 March 45 -

Third Platoon (tanks 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18) and Company 'C' of the 58th left Zeweckle at 0630 leading advance on Burr Hassel four miles away. Engaged enemy upon entrance into the town and infiltrated town with infantry. Tanks 15 and 18 to the Third exchanged fire with enemy tanks in town. Tank 11 destroyed a half-track loaded with Jerry infantry (Cpl Davis, gunner, Lt. Davis, Tank Commander). The Third then moved into town of Burr Hassel at 1600. The lead vehicle No. 11, was knocked out by direct fire. No one was injured. The Third then took up a defensive position for the night. During the same day, the Second with S/Sgt Edward Brodowski in command, (as a result of Lt. Martin being evacuated) left Zeweckle at 1100 with 'B' Company of the 58th in an attack on the town of Buer where the enemy was engaged. S/Sgt Brodowski (tank 14) leading the Second upon entrance into the town was met by a barrage of direct and indirect fire from enemy positions, then tanks 7 and 10 left on a reconnaissance mission in an attempt to find a route to bypass the direct fire. It was decided that the task force would take the same route anyway. The lead tank (14) was knocked out in this attempt by direct fire, and the rest of the column retreated to a defilade position in the town for the night. In tank 14, S/Sgt Brodowski, Tank Commander and Cpl Richard McStay were instantly killed. Pfc Kenneth Ritkofsky, light wound in action, Pfc Earl R. Coffman, combat fatigue, and T/4 John S. Helinski, missing in action (all of tank crew 14). T/4 John S. Helinski later was reported to have crawled through enemy lines to safety and was evacuated the next day with combat fatigue.

31 March 45 -

The Third Platoon (tanks 12, 13, 15, and 18) again left, with 'C' Company, as the lead Platoon on an assault at 0615. Engaged the enemy on the east of Burr Hassel and advanced to Langeubackum. Sniper and artillery fire was encountered upon leaving the town, as a result defensive positions were taken up and area reconnoitered for several hours under enemy artillery fire. At 1630, tanks 13 and 15 maneuvered down the avenue of advance with the Infantry riding the backs of the tanks. Tank 13 was hit by a Panzerfaust but not immobilized. Both tanks were able to return to former positions through covering fire of tanks 12 and 18. The Third Platoon was then relieved by elements of the 35th Infantry Division at 1800. With the First and Second in reserve they proceed to Westerhalt for the night. Artillery destroyed our half-track and all administrative records during the night.

1 April 45 -

Left Westerhalt 1345 and arrived at Selm 1815, distance 34 miles during which no resistance was encountered. T/4 Helinski reported from Missing in Action to Combat Fatigue, 69th Field Hospital.

2 April 45 -

Left Selm 1545 arrived Beckum 2400. Distance covered approximately 40 miles.

3 April 45 -

Left Beckum 0001 in an effort to reach Bad Lip Springs. Arrived Scharmere 1000, 24 miles and had mission changed. Left Scharmere 1200 with Third Platoon and Company 'C' 58th Infantry leading the advance. Enemy engaged at 1500 on outskirts of Lippstadt. After advancing through the town tanks 11 and 13 were pinned down by direct fire. A covering fire of smoke was laid down by the remaining tanks of the Platoon and advance was continued by the Third Platoon and Company 'C'. Defensive positions were taken up after dark with First and Second in reserve in Lippstadt. No casualties. T/5 Frederick Shaefer evacuated with Combat Fatigue.

4 April 45 -

At daybreak, tank fire and anti-aircraft and small arms fire were encountered. Knocked out infantry half-tracks and blocks prevented the proper maneuvering of the tanks. Lt. Thomas E. Davis, Tank Commander, tank 11, was killed by a direct hit on the tank from enemy anti-aircraft fire. The Third Platoon was relieved by the First at 0730. The First Platoon and Company 'C' if the 58th Infantry entered the town of Stippe engaging the enemy there. The Second Platoon bypassed the Third in Stippe at 1400 and entered Vollinghausen with Company 'B' of the Infantry where the night was spent. The Third joined the First at Stippe. Three evacuations, all listed as combat fatigue, were Sgt. Charles J. Lamarche, Cpl. Rocco R. Yamanico, Pfc Paul A. Cates.

5 April 45 -

The Second Platoon and Company 'B' of the 58th Infantry led ab assault on the town of Klieve at 0600. The town was entered with very little resistance, however mines were encountered. No casualties. Combat Command 'C' was relieved and Company was moved back into Lippstadt for the night.

6 April 45 -

Usual field duties were carried out throughout the day with securities.

7 April 45 -

The Second Platoon and 'C' Company, 58th Infantry, moved out of Lippstadt at 0600 to establish road blocks near Soest. Rest of the Company moved out of Lippstadt at 0500 for Bad Sassandarf arriving at 0700. The Second joined the Company there at 1000 and men billeted there. Left Bad Sassandarf at 1700. The First Platoon moved 14 miles and engaged the enemy at Gunne, The Third Platoon moved 15 miles and engaged the enemy at Delecke, took a few prisoners and set up defensive positions there. HQ and the Second Platoon travelled 12 miles to Wipperingsen and took 73 prisoners with no casualties to the Company. Sgt Donald R. Hayes was made Platoon Sgt. of the Third Platoon in lieu of Sgt. Brodowski.

8 April 45 -

The Third Platoon and Company 'B' of the 58th Infantry left Delecke at 1130 leading the assault. The first section with part of 'B' Company attacking Haingen and the second section with the rest of 'B' Company attacking Nederenst in a pea soup fog. The Second Platoon and HQ Platoon left Wippeningsen 1500 and arrived Nederenst 1700. Third Platoon in contact with the enemy. No casualties for the Company. T/5 Ralph A. Gabbert evacuated as a result of a self-inflicted wound in the leg accidently.

9 April 45 -

The first section of the Third Platoon left Haingen at 0450 joining the second section at Nederenst 0515 and continuing the advance on Schlucklingen with Company 'B' of the 58th Infantry. The enemy was engaged at approximately 0900. Tank 14 was met with direct fire and knocked out in a very heavy fog. The task force then withdrew to rearrange and reorganize. The Second moved out of Nederenst at 1000 and moved to the vicinity of Schlucklingen where resistance was met from German Paratroopers. Tank 9 was hit by a German Panzerfaust. Defensive positions were taken up and Sgt. Harry J. Morgan was killed by a sniper. At 1300 the Third Platoon and the First joined the Second at their position. The area was under intense mortar and artillery fire. At 1500 while Tank Commanders of the Third Platoon were mapping out a new route of advance a tree burst injured Lt. Sam Walkup, Sgt. William Hamersley and Sgt. Robert Willy. All were evacuated. Capt. Harold Peterson, Company Commander was also injured at the same time but was not evacuated. At 1700 the Second laid down a base of fire while the First attacked Schlucklingen which was finally taken. The First Platoon acted as outpost in Schlucklingen while the Second assaulted another small town nearby. Casualties for the day were: DEAD: Sgt Harry J. Morgan, Tank Commander, WOUNDED: Lt. Sam Walkup, Tank Commander, Sgt William Hamersly. Tank Commander, Sgt. Robert Willy, Tank Commander, Pfc Edward Bogus, bow gunner acting as driver, Pfc Cecil Dickenson, loader of the artillery piece.

10 April 45 -

Left Schlucklingen at 0630 and pushed enemy back. Arrived at Bausenhagen at 1300, covering a distance of 4 miles. Evacuated for the day were T/5 Allen J. Terhune, Armorer, combat exhaustion, Pfc Delmer W. Dodson, loader, seriously wounded in action.

11 April 45 -

Left Bauschagen at 0630 and pushed forward to Fromern and took same at 1900. Ground covered was about 4 miles. No casualties. Lt. Theodore F. Kaczmarczik and Lt. Jack H. Stype were commissioned 2nd Lts.

12 April 45 -

Left Fromern at 0630 and advanced to Billermich, arriving around 1700.

13 April 45 -

Left Billermich at 0630 and encountered enemy around Hengsen at 1100. Pushed through Hengsen and covered distance of around 35 miles when mission was changed and entire Company was called back to Billermich. Lt. Kaczmarczyk and Pvt. Edwin Lach received light wounds in combat, but were not hospitalized or evacuated.

14 April 45 -

Left Billermich 0745 enroute to a new station at Timmerlah. Travelled 103 miles and still travelling.

15 April 45 -

Still travelling enroute to Timmerlah, finally arriving at 0800. Total distance travelled 191 miles.

16 April 45 -

Usual field duties.

17 April 45 -

Usual field duties. Left Timmerlah at 1700 and arrived Braunschweig at 1800. The distance was 4 miles.

18 April 45 -

Usual field duties.

19 April 45 -

Outposted Cross Roads of Braunschweig.
