4. Operations:
At the beginning of period, units of CCR were disposed in the following locations: Hq & Hq Co-CCR and Co C-78 Med Bn - CLAUSTHAL-ZELLERFELD; 58 AIB - SEESEN; 80 Tk Bn - GOSLAR.
1 May
Screening, patrolling of roads, guarding of vital installations, and governing of assigned areas was carried on by 58 AIB and 80 Tk Bn. At 1500, 6 guards stationed at Corps Radio Stations from 80 Tk Bn,
relieved by guards from AT Plat Co C-58 AIB (attached 80 Tk Bn). These guards were in addition to US and Dutch
guards already there.
2 May
Guards on 3 banks in 58 AIB area (SEESEN) removed as examination of records were shown to be in
order and banks opened. Memorandum from 8th Armd Div received at 1000 clarifying boundaries CCR was responsible
for. Guards in both 58 AIB and 80 Tk Bn areas placed on new installations. At 1700, CCR submitted a report to 8th Armd Div listing all known Army and Corps installations and troops in area.
3 May
Guarding of vital installations, patrolling of roads, and governing of area was continued.
4 May
80 Tk Bn re-screened area for subversive elements and enemy installations. This was accomplished by sub-dividing area in numbered portions and sending 5 man patrols to each for a thorough re-screening. Both 58 AIB and 80 Tk Bn consolidated patrols and guards.
6 May
Guarding of vital installations and patrolling of all roads in area continued. Operational Instructions #33 received from 8th Armd Div, specifying CCR will be relieved by CCA and XIX Corps Arty by 071800 May 1945, CCR to relieve elements of 88 Cav Rcn Sq, 53 Armd Engr Bn, and 2nd Armd Div, in new area. 473 AAA AW (Sp) Bn to be attached CCR effective 071200 May 45. At 062000, Operational Instructions #7 w/overlay issued from CCR to units of CCR. CCR requested thru 8th Armd Div to have 1 Btry from 473 AAA Bn sent to vicinity OSTERODE to take over main installations by 071100 and have their Ln O report to CCR CP.
7 May
Co C-58 AIB, Co B-80 Tk Bn, and Btry C-473 AAA Bn relieved elements of 88 Cav Rcn Sq, 53 Armd
Engr Bn and 2 Armd Div in their respective assigned areas by 1430. Battalions prepared for movement to new
area. Overlay received from 8th Armd Div at 1430 showing new CC boundaries. At 1500, 809 TD Bn relieved units
of CCR. Prior to relief, CCR units were guarding 45 installations involving use of 574 men in 24 hours period (stationary and mounted patrols). 58 AIB was notified to move from present location to new area by 081000 May 45, 80 Tk Bn was notified to move Co's B and D from present location to new area by 081000 May 45.
8 May
Hq and Hq Co-CCR left vicinity CLAUSTHAL- ZELLERFELD at 0900 and closed vicinity DUDERSTADT at 1115. 58 AIB and Co C-78 Med Bn closed vicinity of DUDERSTADT, 80 Tk Bn closed vicinity HATTORF, 473 AAA Bn closed vicinity of EISDORF. Guards placed at all vital installations and patrolling of roads was begun.
9 May
Training Directive received from 8th Armd Div stating training will be carried out in addition to
occupying and governing of area. Patrolling of roads and guarding of installations continued.
10 May
1 Plat from Co D-80 Tk Bn attached to Div Trains for security purposes.
11 May
Organized training program begun for each battalion in addition to primary mission.
12 May
58 AIB, 80 Tk Bn, and 473 AAA Bn began range firing of all weapons, both individual and crew served.
13-30 May
Continued training, range firing, guarding of installations, and patrolling of roads was going on
during this period. All officers and enlisted men saw film "Two Down and One to Go". On 23 May, Training Memorandum #4 received from 8th Armd Div covering prescribed training.
31 May
At 2100, Operational Instructions #34 was received from 8th Armd Div, alerted CCR to be ready to
move to vicinity of Pilsen, Czech by 5 June 1945. At the close of period, CCR units were guarding 14 installations using 260 men as guards and roving patrols.
